We got married in late May and had idyllic weather—warm, sunny, and no rain!

• Avoid Peak Summer (July–August): Portugal gets very hot, and adding air conditioning units to historic venues creates an extra expense and isn’t aesthetically pleasing.

• Fire Season Risks: Late July through September brings high temperatures and elevated wildfire risks in the Sintra hills, which can disrupt travel and outdoor events.

1. Pack a Spare “Wedding Extras” Suitcase

Flying with a dedicated, extra suitcase for temporary items was one of our best decisions. Use it to carry decor, welcome bag favors, glow sticks, custom napkins, and bridal party gifts that you buy in advance.

Pro-Tip: If you don’t want to drag an extra bag home, buy an inexpensive secondhand suitcase or pack everything in a sturdy cardboard box that you check as luggage. Once unpacked, you can leave the box behind!

2. Transport Your Wedding Attire as Carry-On

Invest in a high-quality, convertible garment bag for your wedding dress and suit.

• The Sacred Rule: Never check your wedding attire. Airlines will count your garment bag as one of your carry-on items.

• Plane Prep: Once on board, ask the flight crew if there is space in the first-class coat closet to hang your garment bag during the flight.
